HOW ONE NEW MOM FINALLY FOUND A SUCCESSFUL WORK FROM HOME CAREER THAT PROVIDES STEADY INCOME FOR HER FAMILY

how to become a Pinterest virtual assistant

Are you searching for that perfect career that allows you to work from home and be your own boss?

Unfortunately, it can be super hard to find a legitimate work from home opportunity that ends up working out, is actually something that you want to do and pays the bills!

In this VA Ninja review, you will hear from Christine who felt like she was in the same boat. She shares how she was desperately trying to find some way that she could work online so that she could stay home with her new baby.

Thankfully, she found a solution that was a great fit for her and is now providing her the steady and growing income that she was looking for, all with a flexible schedule. Not only did it have low start-up costs (to fit her tight budget) but it was something she could get started on after getting some quick training.

I had the opportunity to interview Christine so that she could share her thoughts for this VA Ninja review and tell us her journey on how to become a Pinterest virtual assistant. As a Pinterest virtual assistant Christine helps clients start, grow and manage their Pinterest marketing accounts.

I loved hearing her student success story and how she overcame the all too common difficulties she faced when trying to find a suitable work from home career.

VA NINJA REVIEW: INTERVIEW WITH CHRISTINE

CAN YOU PLEASE START WITH TELLING MY AUDIENCE A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF?

Before the course, I was a new stay-at-home mama who was desperately trying to find online work so I could remain a stay-at-home mama! My husband and I have always lived on a tight budget, and adding a baby to the mix of course made things tighter, (and a lot cuter, though my hubby and I are pretty cute ourselves), but both my husband and I were determined that one of us would be able to stay at home with our amazing baby girl.

WHAT MOTIVATED YOU TO LEARN HOW TO BECOME A PINTEREST VIRTUAL ASSISTANT?

Honestly, I was giving up on the possibility of making money online. I’d tried becoming a freelance writer, starting a blog, doing surveys, etc., and nothing was actually paying or providing a steady income. The only online job I was able to find was for a company that I was connected to because of my degree, and though that job began as a remote position, it turned into an in-office job, making it impossible for me to stay at home. The reason I started thinking about becoming a Pinterest VA is because I’d gained a lot of skills in Pinterest marketing due to the Pinterest Ninja course I bought for my blog.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS PARTICULAR COURSE?

I started by purchasing Megan Johnson’s Pinterest Ninja course to help with my blog, as I mentioned above. I’d seen Megan Johnson’s content on Pinterest (because of my desperate searches for legitimate online work for stay-at-home mamas), and I decided to purchase her course because she was the only one who seemed to set realistic expectations. Other pins/bloggers were saying, “Start making $10,000/month blogging in less than a month with NO experience!” or “Have a FULL TIME JOB on Pinterest with NO experience in less than a week!” – stuff like that. Megan’s pins were clear that it was possible to make money online, but it took TIME and WORK. That resonated with me, because that makes sense! After purchasing and completing her Pinterest Ninja course, my pinterest profile SKYROCKETED, and honestly – so did my blog.

But, I still wasn’t making money with my blog, because making money blogging, (especially for a first time blogger), takes a long time. And for me, I needed to be making money if I was going to afford being a stay-at-home mom. Thanks to Megan’s Pinterest Ninja course, I had become really good at navigating Pinterest marketing in just over 6 months, so I thought the Pinterest virtual assistant course would be a perfect fit for me. So ultimately, that’s why I purchased Megan’s VA Ninja course over other Pinterest courses – I’d already seen her results work, because I’d already put her incredible teaching into practice. Plus, other courses cost hundreds of dollars, and I didn’t have a lot of money when I started! Like, basically no money. Megan’s courses are affordable, valuable, and the best business investment I’ve ever made. Truly.

I’ve told everyone I recommend this course to, (cause I recommend it like crazy!) that they should seriously consider purchasing the Pinterest Ninja course along with it, and taking that course first. Even if you feel like you have a lot of experience with Pinterest, there’s a lot of misinformation regarding effective Pinterest marketing circulating on other blogs, pages, etc. Megan’s results, (for both myself and my two clients), prove to me again and again that she knows what she’s talking about! Plus, she updates all her courses every 3-6 months, so when Pinterest updates it’s algorithm, Megan makes sure you stay updated as well.

WHAT WAS YOUR NUMBER ONE GOAL IN TAKING THIS COURSE?

I was hoping to build a meaningful, successful career that allowed me to make a steady income while staying at home with my awesome kid. By being a Pinterest virtual assistant, I get the opportunity to help other small businesses and entrepreneurs flourish while having a flourishing business of my own. To me, that’s so meaningful, because helping other people grow their businesses has always been a huge motivation for my entrepreneurial pursuits.

“By being a Pinterest virtual assistant, I get the opportunity to help other small businesses and entrepreneurs flourish while having a flourishing business of my own. To me, that’s so meaningful, because helping other people grow their businesses has always been a huge motivation for my entrepreneurial pursuits.” – Christine, VA Ninja Review

DID YOU MEET THIS GOAL AS A RESULT OF TAKING THIS COURSE?

Absolutely – I get to stay at home with my daughter! And the sky is truly the limit on my income. I’m still building a client base, and having the ability to work from home, (and on my own schedule), is SO liberating! I’m no longer dependent on bosses who could change my hours, my ability to be remote, or my schedule. I’m no longer scraping the bottom of our bank account to make ends meet. This course has truly unlocked my entrepreneurial potential, and it’s given me more positive results than I was expecting – and I had high expectations! I love the purposeful feeling of bringing genuine value to my clients. I love the feeling of getting to schedule my work based around my family’s needs. I love my job!

HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO COMPLETE THE COURSE?

Because I had already completed the Pinterest Ninja course, I finished the Pinterest VA Ninja course in 10 days. (I was very motivated, and I had already turned my business into an LLC, which is a step I was able to skip in Megan’s course, though she does cover that topic in detail.)

WHAT WAS THE MOST VALUABLE THING YOU LEARNED IN THE COURSE?

It’s hard to narrow it down to just one thing, so I’ll say that the most valuable thing I learned was how to function as a virtual assistant/business owner. Basically, how to stay organized, particularly when it comes to taxes, legal details, how to value my time and services. My business wouldn’t be effectively functioning without this course.

DID YOU FEEL LIKE VA NINJA COVERED EVERYTHING YOU NEEDED TO KNOW ABOUT HOW TO BECOME A PINTEREST VIRTUAL ASSISTANT?

This course covers everything you need to know about setting up the business: taxes, legal stuff, pricing your services, getting clients, and maintaining – and in some cases, even respectfully parting from – client relationships.

However, it doesn’t cover the actual skills you need to become a successful Pinterest virtual assistant, i.e. the Pinterest marketing skills you need in order to do the job.  You NEED to know Pinterest marketing FIRST. And again, I can’t recommend anything more than Megan’s Pinterest Ninja course for that.

WHAT DID YOU LIKE ABOUT VA NINJA?

The number one thing I love about this course is that it’s honest. It gives you the honest truth, even if that truth is, “This is really hard to do,” “I wasted money doing this,” or, “This is something I need to look into more.” Megan even provides quality, free alternatives to the resources she recommends, so I’ve been able to start my business on a budget. (Which is good, because my budget for starting the business was crazy low.)

IS THERE ANYTHING YOU WISH WAS DIFFERENT ABOUT THE VA NINJA COURSE?

Honestly, I wouldn’t change anything. Maybe in a few years I’ll find something I wish was different, but at this point, it’s been exactly what I needed to get me to where I wanted to be as an entrepreneur, a stay-at-home mom, and a business owner.

HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO MAKE ENOUGH TO PAY FOR THE COST OF THE COURSE?

Technically, it only took me a month’s worth of work (for one client) to repay the cost of the course, but if you include my other business expenses, it’s taken three months, (because  I’m currently in my third month of being a Pinterest VA) to start making a profit.

“I get to stay at home with my daughter! And the sky is truly the limit on my income. I’m still building a client base, and having the ability to work from home, (and on my own schedule), is SO liberating!” – Christine, VA Ninja Review

WHAT DO YOU THINK COULD HELP STUDENTS MAKE THE MOST OUT OF THIS COURSE?

I’ll break it down into four things:

1. Read and re-read the course! And if you purchase the Pinterest Ninja course as well, I would tell you the same thing. These courses are packed with so much actionable content, that when you go through it the first time, you’re literally just trying to keep up with all the work! When you read it a second time, third time, etc., you really internalize the principles behind the actions, and you become the expert.

I use both courses as reference documents! If I hit a snag or enter into an area where I’m not sure what I should do, I search both courses first, because chances are – Megan’s already answered my question! If I don’t find what I’m looking for in the courses, though, I always ask questions and/or look at the questions posted in Megan’s Facebook group for her students.

2. Engage in the Facebook groups, the one for students AND the free one she offers to the public. There are so many valuable connections and so much valuable content just waiting for you there – don’t be afraid to engage!

3. Be prepared to WORK HARD. This is not a “get rich quick” job. It’s a “work hard, live well” job. For me, there are two main reasons behind why becoming a VA is hard work:

One, you have to be consistent, before you make money. You have to put in the work upfront, before you see the results (i.e. getting clients). And since you don’t know when you’ll see the results, you have to work hard, and work consistently.

Secondly, at some point, (or several points), you will be overwhelmed and feel totally in over your head. Don’t get discouraged in those moments – you have to slow down, take a beat, and realize you’re on a HUGE learning curve. You’re learning so much in order to be a successful VA, and much like the upfront work you have to put in before you get your client, you have to learn a lot before you feel comfortable.

4. Just because being a VA is virtual, your client’s don’t have to be! If you’re looking for clients, start with people you know – that’s where my two client’s have come from. I talked to two awesome ladies I know that have small businesses, asked them if they would let me give them some free Pinterest Marketing to see if they liked it, and boom – I was able to launch! I provide my services virtually, even for clients I have the ability to see in person, but don’t get stuck one way or the other by thinking virtual services can only be offered to virtual clients!

WHEN DID YOU START YOUR BUSINESS?

I started my blogging business almost a year ago, and my Pinterest VA business three months ago.

HOW MUCH MONEY ARE YOU MAKING PER MONTH? HOW MANY HOURS PER WEEK DO YOU WORK ON YOUR BUSINESS? WHAT ARE YOUR BUSINESS RELATED MONTHLY EXPENSES?

Before taxes and other expenses, I make approximately $400/month. I work a total of two hours a week for my clients, one hour per client. Most of my business subscriptions are annual, so if you spread those out to each month, my business expenses are $67 a month. Those expenses are applications that I also use for my blog, though, so if you’re not doing a blog in addition to being a VA, your expenses could be lower than mine.

WHAT DOES A TYPICAL WORK DAY LOOK LIKE FOR YOU?

Since I’m a stay-at-home mama, my day-to-day schedule can vary, (because we all know kids are super predictable!) but typically, I get 1 – 2 hours of work done before my baby girl wakes up, and another 1 – 2 hours done when she’s napping. If it’s a no-nap day, (the most dreaded day of the year), then I finish my work in the evenings after she goes to bed. Usually, at that point, I’m cuddled up next to my handsome hubby while he watches movies. (Or rewatches The Office. Or Parks & Rec. We can’t get enough!)

Now, most of this work is for my blog and/or getting myself out there in order to find more clients, so my schedule for purely VA work means that I usually get my work done in either the mornings or afternoons on Monday and Tuesday. If I have a big project, (like revamping my website, etc.), I’ll often work late nights until I finish that project.

WHAT ARE SOME CHALLENGES YOU FACE WITH YOUR CAREER?

I think staying motivated is a big challenge I face. I’m a really self-motivated person, but since this job is 100% self motivation, it can get hard to maintain that drive. So little treats (bribes?) like fancy coffee, a new blazer, etc., often work to help me stay motivated. Also, because I’ve done so much bootstrapping to get by business started, I often get stuck in the “survival” mindset and forget to think ahead toward growth, development, and enjoying the efforts of my hard work. Basically, it’s hard to turn my brain off!

IS IT HARD/EASY TO FIND CLIENTS?

It can be hard to find clients, so like I mentioned earlier – start with people you know, both virtual and non-virtual. Secondly, be active in Facebook groups, especially Megan’s Facebook groups, AND Facebook groups of the industries/areas that have the clientele you’re looking for. Every business can benefit from hiring a Pinterest VA, but start with businesses in industries you have experience with, or ones you’re passionate about. For me, I know the Home Decor, DIY and Interior Design markets really well, so I’m active in groups like that.

WHO WOULD YOU RECOMMEND THIS COURSE TO THOSE LOOKING FOR TRAINING ON HOW TO BECOME A PINTEREST VIRTUAL ASSISTANT?

Anyone who is self-motivated, hard working, able to learn new things without quitting, and who knows (or is willing to learn) the ins-and-outs of Pinterest marketing really well. If you have those first three qualities down, but you don’t have the fourth, check out Pinterest Ninja to get you the knowledge and experience you need to be a successful VA! I bought each course separately, (as you’ve already seen), but you can also buy the bundle for a cheaper price – if I could go back in time and do that, I would!

HOW MANY STARS WOULD YOU RATE THIS COURSE OUT OF FIVE?

500.  Just kidding – in all seriousness, I would give this course 500 stars. It’s changed the course of my life! If you’re 100% discouraged and distrusting of things that claim you can have a legitimate online career with a huge pay check – I really do understand that feeling, because that’s how I felt before I went through the Pinterest Ninja and VA Ninja courses. From one stay-at-home mom entrepreneur to another – this one actually delivers.

The Pinterest Ninja and VA Ninja courses were the best business investments I ever made, hands-down. They’re literally the reason I have a business, the reason I no longer scrape to make ends meet, and the reason I’m a stay-at-home mom.
